A Letter To My Daughter On Her Birthday

Sweet little one,

I cannot believe this day is already here (again) where I reflect on the day you took hold of my world. The day you joined our family and shifted everything into focus. It’s crazy how quickly a year passes, and how much beauty is crammed into all its nooks and crannies.  My heart spills over for you every morning and runs into places in my heart I did not even know existed.

When your dad and I swaddled you as a warm newborn burrito for the first time, you held our delicate hearts in your soft little hands and you still hold them now. You are growing into a compassionate, kind-hearted, and wise soul that brings light to every moment. More frequently now I have tiny glimpses into the person you will be in one, five, and ten years. I cannot wait to spend another year watching you grow, and growing along with you.

Here’s To You, Sweet Girl

You will make mistakes, and you will question yourself. But I am here to listen to your words no matter what they are, and reassure you anytime you need to hear it.

You will have even more first times and moments of wonder with this world. I am here to illuminate the wonder around you and create it for you in times it seems hard to come by.

You will experience every emotion a little person can experience all within the same minute. I am here to tell you it’s okay to experience all of them. I will be patient as you learn yourself just as I learn you too.

You will be disappointed, by people, by circumstances, in yourself. I am here to help you glue all the tiny pieces together and find all the open windows for every closed door.

You will have high expectations from me and from yourself as you navigate this world. I will give you the tools to do so and the trust to find your own way.

You will have moments of beautiful kindness, and moments when you are not the best version of yourself. I am here to love you for every version of you, and build the path of kindness with you.

You will continue to get boo-boos, and I will continue to find my way as a mom. We will learn together how to navigate this world, and continue to find joy everyday.

You could not make me any more proud, and I could not love you more deeply than I already do. Cheers to you baby girl. Here’s to another year.
