Pregnancy Skin Care Routine

I will be the first one to admit, I never gave a hoot about my skin care routine. I actually did not really have any skin care routine at all, and often rolled into bed with makeup still on. Yes, really! After my first baby, I was HYPER AWARE of everything I put on and in her tiny new body. I spent hours researching soaps, lotions, and foods to find products I felt good about using with her. One day after her bath and lotion routine I realized that if I was going to spend so much effort and thought in caring for her body with safe ingredients after she was born, I needed to do the same thing with my babes while they were still inside my body. I started swapping out my current skin care products with pregnancy safe skin care products until I found a skin care routine I absolutely love!
I wanted to find a pregnancy skin care routine that was also sustainable in the postpartum period and beyond.
Before my next babe, I did a ton of research and trial and error to find the best products for my skin. The skin is the largest organ and what it absorbs affects you and that sweet babe! I spent a lot of time trying out products to find ones that are effective and safe for me and baby. But for me, it was also important they were affordable so that I could sustain using them. A really expensive product you try out might be great for occasional use or an overhaul treatment. But I knew that if I was going to fall in love with something and use it everyday, it needed to fit in our budget.
After all I have learned I feel confident in my skin care routine through pregnancy and postpartum. Out of all the ones I tried out, I only recommend the ones I actually buy and use myself. As always, I am just a regular mama trying to find ways to make living in this season of life a little easier. If I can save another pregnant mama some research and money with my experience, then that’s a win for me!
Pregnancy Skin Care Routine for Face
Overall I have very dry skin, but with each baby I have also dealt with TONS of acne flairups. I did not always have acne, but these babes wreak havoc on my skin! My go-to routine for cleaning my face every night (through pregnancy and beyond) is cleansing with Primally Pure cleansing oil. Because I have dry skin, I use the version of their cleansing oil for dry skin. They carry three different types depending on your individual skin for normal, oily, or dry. I was hesitant to try an oil based cleansing method with all the breakouts I was having. After only a week of using their cleansing oil, I was blown away by how this particular oil cleared up and treated my skin. I tried a few oils before falling in love with Primally Pure that were way too oily for my skin, and did not feel like a product I would use regularly. Recently, I added in the Primally Pure baby bar for extra hydration due to my dry skin and have been loving that so
far! The ingredients (things like sunflower oil, apricot oil, avocado oil) are simple yet powerful, and I always feel so fresh after using their cleansing oil. The oil bottle is only $20.00 and lasts FOREVER since you do not need a lot at once. All their products are super affordable compared to a few other oil brands I tried so I knew I would use it as part of my permanent routine. Use code FBMAMA10 to get a discount on their products if you want to try them out!
Did I mention how dry my skin gets? On top of the glorious pregnancy acne, I get constant dry skin on my face and body. For my face, one of my favorite moisturizers is the chia oil from
cocokind. I discovered this company after trying a few different oil based moisturizers that left me feeling super greasy. Similar to Primally Pure, they focus on clean and safe beauty products while still being affordable for any budget. Clean and effective skincare should be something anyone can choose within any financial budget. I use a few drops of the cocokind chia oil at night or under my makeup to keep myself feeling nourished and restored. The chia does have an interesting smell, but once it is applied it is not noticeable. Because it is oil-based, a little goes a long way and it lasts forever!
Pregnancy Skin Care for Body
Along with the dry skin on my face, I tend to have itchy dry skin allover my body. I am beyond thankful I have made it to pregnancy number three with no stretch marks! While stretch marks are oftentimes not avoidable, keeping your skin well-nourished doesn’t hurt. As my belly grows, I try to make sure I am well-hydrated in my most vulnerable areas. For my body lotion, I use the same brand I use for my kiddos! Babo Botanical’s lotion line is perfect for anyone with sensitive skin, and especially fresh newborn skin. They make an amazing stretch mark oil that can be used for any skin needing hydration and firming with oils like Argan, Rosehip, and Sea Buckhorn. It is super mellow and effective at the same time, and leaves skin feeling smooth instead of oily. They also make an adult skincare line for sensitive skin that is great for anyone with additional skin concerns like eczema.
I am so thankful having babies made me start paying attention to what I use on my skin! My daily skin care regimen is something I look forward to every single day. My skin feels a thousand times lighter than it used to, and I feel confident in supporting these brands everyday. The ingredients are so clean and natural, and my skin has never looked this way. I hope to pass on my skin care routine to my daughters as they grow! And, I hope they don’t wait as long as I did to take care of their skin! Don’t forget to use FBMAMA10 to snag your discount for Primally Pure, and feel confident in choosing any of these brands to try out for your skin. I am so glad I landed on products that I love so much and hope the same for you!
All the best,
