Fall is my absolute favorite season. I love the temperate weather, changing leaves, spicy smells, and all the fun fall brings to our family. Summer is filled with sunshine, vacations, and a chance to relax before all of the busyness that comes with fall. Busy with school resuming. Fall sports schedules and activities. Holiday prep and fall cleaning. Before you know it, winter has arrived and fall is just a distant memory. I plan to make the most of these crisp fall days, and focus a bit more on self care this season than I have in the past. There are so many incredible self care ideas for fall!
Self care is a staple year round to be the best version of ourselves. When things get busy, self care tends to slip to the bottom of the list. I am a mom of three under three and I am the first one to admit that I do a TERRIBLE job with self care. Weeks go by in the chaos of family life before I realize that mom needs a little attention. Take control of your self care with these self care ideas for the fall season. Your family deserves the best of you, and you certainly deserve the time for yourself.
Update Your Fall Wardrobe
Fall is one of the best seasons to dress for! Chunky over-sized sweaters, leather boots, jeans, and all the flannel. Update your fall wardrobe with some new items that will get you excited about the fall season. Treat yo’self to that new sweater or scarf mama!
If you are someone that prefers letting someone else style you, give Stitch Fix a try. I have used their services a few times when I was looking for a wardrobe change and they absolutely blew me away with their picks. It is super affordable and so much fun to work with your own stylist.
Long Walks (With Coffee)
The weather can be perfect in the fall. Mild, fresh, and not as intense as the heat of summer or the chill of winter. Make some time for walking during fall to see the leaves or enjoy the temperate climate. I prefer my walks with a large coffee (pumpkin spice if that’s your thing) or cinnamon tea to make the walk even cozier.
All The Fall Foods
By the time fall hits, I am ready to be done with corn on the cob and all the grilled meats. Fall dinners means warm soups, spicy chili, and all the slow cooker staples! Break out those delicious slow cooker soup recipes and meal plan for some great fall meals to make the house smell delicious and fill up the family.
Pumpkin Everything
Pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie, pumpkin carving. The ways to use pumpkins for self care are endless. Pick em, cook em, carve em and enjoy the heck out of those pumpkins.
Decorate for Fall
Fall decorations and smells are so joy-filled! Dig out all the fall decor and grab a new fall scented candle or essential oil mixture to make your house feel festive.
At Home Spa Day
Take an opportunity to have an at-home spa day when those fall days turn a bit more crisp. Soak in a hot bath, light some fall candles, and snag a fall-themed facial mask to take your spa day to the next level.
Mull Some Cider
Again with the smells! I strongly believe a lot of great self care happens through the nose (especially for the moms, amiright?) Try making your own apple cider or mulled wine at home and enjoy the smells and taste! If cider isn’t your thing, you can mull your own potpourri to fill your house with all the smells!
Bonfire Nights
The smell of a campfire brings all the fall feels. Grab some wood or a conventional fire pit and have an old-fashioned bonfire outside.
Fall Activities
Fall activities are endless and make for some great memories. Look up local places for some apple-picking, pumpkin-picking or grape stomping and get outside. Take your kiddos if you want, or take some girlfriends for some mom friend time.
Take In The Leaves
The fall colors are fleeting, and give some of the best views. If you do not live in an area with great foliage, take a drive nearby to where the leaves are turning, Snap some pictures and enjoy the once in a year colors.
Start A New Exercise Routine
I am a runner, and nothing beats running during the fall! The weather is perfect and the leaves crunch under my running shoes. Fall is a great time of year to try out a new exercise routine. Join a new class or invest in a new routine to feel great and love your body.

Start A Journal
Writing is great self care any time of year, but it can be even better on crisp fall mornings! Start a journal with a list of all the wonderful things in your life. Write some affirmations to tackle the remaining months of 2020 with a positive mindset and reach any goals you set for yourself.
Start A Book Club
Another fun fall activity with cooler weather is getting hooked on a great book. I love picking up a new book to read by the fire with a warm cup of tea and a chunky knit blanket. Read solo or consider starting a book club with your friends. Books clubs make sure you get time to spend with friends and gives you a great conversation starter.
Check Off A Project
For me, self care can involve a feeling of accomplishment. Because of my type A tendencies, I love checking projects off my list. Make a plan to use fall to accomplish something from your list, whether it be a personal project or a house project.
Movie Night
Fall is also great for movies! As the nights grow colder, the couch looks better for cozy nights in. Cuddle up to a romantic movie alone with some tea, or a scary movie with your partner. If you are a mama like me, I dare you not to fall asleep for the whole movie!
Amp up your self care this fall with some of the ideas on this list. I plan to tackle as many as possible! What’s your favorite fall self care idea?
